Notes:
Playing with Stones is one of Huang Yao's representative sketches in his late period. It continues his popular character image of "A Pu" - a costumed character with childlike innocence and philosophy, often appearing in bamboo forests and streams, reflecting the various aspects of life in a simple and vivid way. The picture uses loose and free brushstrokes to outline the characters and the environment, with warm and light colors, and the blending technique of water and ink, making the viewer seem to step into a game scene that transcends the mundane world. The character bends over and concentrates on playing with the stones on the river beach. The movements are childish, but the meaning is profound, reflecting Huang Yao's artistic philosophy and outlook on life of "returning to nature". Huang Yao is good at creating a strong oriental poetic space with a minimalist image structure. His art combines the spiritual core of literati painting, the humorous and sharp language of comics, and the open-minded and calm Taoist view of nature, making his works unique in the context of Nanyang ink painting in the 20th century and highly favored by collectors in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.
- Condition: Please enquire via email to [email protected]
