"Memory of Rain", Indonesian conceptual artist FX Harsono continues his consistent focus on identity politics and historical memory, using digital imagery as a narrative medium to transform personal and collective experiences into visual texts filled with emotional tension and impact. The work presents the image of “rain” within a gloomy and quiet atmosphere. It is not only a natural phenomenon, but also a historical metaphor—what falls like raindrops are buried memories, voiceless truths, and unrecognized suffering.
As a member of the Chinese Indonesian minority, Harsono's creations are always closely linked to themes of social justice. In this work, he uses “rain” as a symbol of traumatic memory. The work functions as a silent testimony, unfolding a gentle yet firm posture of resistance toward the viewer. The use of digital printing renders the image extremely delicate and clear, while preserving the documentary essence of photography, creating a subtle tension between “art” and “evidence.”
