Notes:
Choo Keng Kwang is a celebrated Singaporean artist renowned for his oil paintings depicting his travel experiences and Singapore Chinatown. He masterfully fused impressionism and perspective techniques with traditional Chinese brushwork, offering a refreshing interpretation of landscape paintings.
Widely acclaimed for his signature impressionist landscapes, his en plein air paintings uniquely employ golden halos that render an ethereal atmosphere where light forms the visual focal point of his composition. In "Going to Temple", Choo captures the moment when morning rays filter through tree branches, highlighting the graceful beauty of Balinese architecture, people, and culture.
After graduating from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1953, Choo dedicated himself to education, serving as the Principal of Sin Hua School and later as the Head of the art education department at NAFA. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he was awarded the Public Service Medal in 1976. Beyond his artistic achievements, Choo was a dedicated philanthropist. His legacy endures in Singapore's art scene, with his works being housed in national art institutions and presented to prominent figures such as Chairman Mao Tse-Tung and Singapore's former President Ong Teng Cheong.
- Condition: This work overall is in good condition.
