In the work "Meditation", which has a rigorous composition and implicit emotions, Chong Ai Lei uses her signature figurative realistic technique to depict a young woman standing quietly in the forest, touching the tree trunk with a focused expression, as if gazing at some unspeakable existence in nature. The picture is calm and full of tension, and the body language of the characters strongly echoes the vertical composition between the background trees, strengthening the spirituality and inner order of the picture. Chong's creations often revolve around the theme of "women's existence in space", exploring the relationship between body, emotion and environment. In this work, although the characters are in an open natural space, they show an extremely restrained mental state. This subtle and profound emotional tension is the charm of the artist's work.
Her delicate brushstrokes and restrained tones accurately capture the detailed transitions between the characters' skin, hair and the light and shadow of the environment, making the viewer seem to enter a state of viewing that is almost meditative. Chong Ai Lei was born in Johor, Malaysia, and graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art.
