Originating in the 1990s from Zhou’s attachment to his German Shepherd "Heigen," the series transcends personal affection to embody universal symbolism of loyalty, solitude, and free will. "Green Dog" series serves not only as visualizations of the artist's private emotions but also as allegories of individual existence within China's contemporary social landscape.
This small-scale bronze sculpture captures the dog in a dynamic pose, reclining on its side with forelimbs slightly raised while portrayed with pensive melancholy.
