Notes:
"Song of Wood" is a typical representative of Shinoda Toko's abstract art language in her later years. The work conveys the "spirit" of nature with extreme simplicity and profound oriental connotations. In this lithograph, the ink marks are like tree shadows swaying in the wind, echoing the rhythm and sense of life of the image of "wood". The whole work flows in silence and is full of tension in balance. It is another steady interpretation of Shinoda's artistic philosophy of "writing is painting" on paper. Starting from the foundation of calligraphy, Shinoda gradually got rid of the original meaning of words and made the ink lines a symbol of inner rhythm. Her abstract works are often regarded as a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures - retaining the soul of oriental calligraphy and communicating in the context of Western abstract expressionism in the 20th century.
"Song of Wood" is not just a painting, but more like an unspoken poem - humming softly, but hitting the heart directly.
