This exceptional selection of four works by Lim Hak Tai offers a rare opportunity to encounter the artistry of one of Singapore's most important cultural pioneers. Revered as the founding principal of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Lim Hak Tai played a defining role in shaping the development of art education and the emergence of the Nanyang artistic identity in Southeast Asia. Spanning expressive floral compositions and elegant calligraphy, the present works reflect the artist's refined brushwork, literati sensibilities, and deep connection to Chinese ink traditions. Significantly, these works originate directly from the relatives of the artist, lending the group remarkable provenance and historical intimacy. Calligraphy was never a subsidiary skill for Lim Hak Tai, but a fundamental part of his artistic foundation; he used writing as a means to establish a cultivated and spiritual temperament. This work belongs to a literati tradition of exchange and inscription, carrying the character of a gifted piece. The text is Early Departure from Baidi City by Lee Bai, one of the most representative Romantic poets of the Tang dynasty. The work integrates poetic content with the considered placement of seals, embodying both literary and visual elements.

Shipping
33 Auction's Shipping Department can advise buyers on exporting and shipping property. Please complete and sign the shipping instruction form sent with your invoice if this service is required.
