Julien Marinetti continues his representative "Painted Sculptures" concept in this work "Panda Ba", cleverly combining sculpture and painting, applying free and abstract painted language to the plump and rounded panda body, giving traditional bronze sculpture a new life of contemporary vision. The sculpture is based on the giant panda, which symbolizes peace and friendliness in Chinese culture, but Marinetti is not limited to a representational reproduction. Instead, he uses the panda as a "canvas" of emotion and color, splashing graffiti, scratching, patterns and strong coloring on its surface, presenting a complex and ambiguous visual experience. Layers of color are superimposed on the hand-polished copper body and treated with high-gloss varnish, giving the whole work both material weight and surface gloss. The panda's expression on the front of the work is warm and innocent, while its body is covered with totemic paintings and lines. Under the cute appearance, it contains the tension of complex urban culture and personal image language.
Marinetti was trained in a classical academy in his early years, and later turned to cross-media experiments. His most famous sculpture series includes "Doggy John", "Skull", "Kwak" and the "Ba" series from which this work was created. His works have been exhibited in Paris, London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and other places, and are collected by many museums and important private collectors.
"Panda Ba" is not only a highly condensed work of Marinetti's personal style, but also a model work that symbolizes the intersection of Eastern and Western cultures and the fusion of sculpture and painting.
