Notes:
"Departure No. 7B" is a sister piece in Huang Yin's "Departure" series, and together with "7A", it forms a diptych-style psychological portrait. This work focuses on the back posture of the protagonist—the “child soldier”—whose body is slightly bent, with one hand gently lifting a curtain, as if peeking into an unknown world or social space. In the other hand, a faint trail of cigarette smoke adds to the quiet yet tense atmosphere.
The painting continues Huang Yin’s signature visual language: a porcelain doll-like figure, a cold, smooth, metallic hairstyle, and the detail of falling beads of sweat—all reinforcing the symbolic concept of the “institutionalized human form.” The boundary between the curtain and the darkness represents not only the division between stage and reality, but also serves as a metaphor for the boundary between individual selfhood and external disciplinary forces.
The dialogue with "7A" creates a mirrored rhythm in composition and deepens the emotional resonance behind the theme of "departure." Facing the unknown, the figure expresses a mixture of curiosity and hidden anxiety—yearning to escape, yet reluctant to let go. This subtle psychological tension reflects what Huang Yin consistently explores in his child soldier theme: “the fragility and humor of individuals within a system.”
The work delivers strong emotional drama within a small scale. It is a vital piece for understanding Huang Yin’s artistic perspective and the development of the visual language in his child soldiers series, making it a key work for collectors interested in his transitional period.
- Condition: The work is in good condition. The canvas is in good condition. No sign of restoration on this work. The work is framed
