In this work "Kintamani Stone Mountain", Balinese artist Gusti Agung Mangu Putera uses heavy brushstrokes and alternating warm and cool tones to create a dynamic landscape. The piece depicts the renowned Kintamani region on Bali Island, Indonesia, where distant mountains stand silent and towering, and the fractured landforms evoke a raw, untamed tension of life. Reddish brown and pale gray hues seep through dense green and black layers, forming a complex texture—like a gaze into the dormant force of a volcano.
Putera’s painting technique is deeply influenced by both traditional Balinese culture and Western expressionism. He often expresses emotion through landscapes, using nature as a vessel for spiritual imagery.
