Notes:
Born in Medan, Indonesia in 1937, Goh Beng Kwan moved to Singapore with his family when he was 8 years old. He studied under two pioneering Singaporean painters, Chen Wen Hsi and Cheong Soo Pieng, and went to study at the Art Students League of New York in 1962, becoming one of the first local painters to study in New York.
1982 marked a pivotal year in his artistic career. After winning the inaugural UOB Painting of the Year Competition, he devoted himself to artistic creation, subsequently garnering major honors including the First Prize at the Australia High Commission Art Award (1984), the Silver Medal at the Salon des Artistes Français (Grand Palais, Paris), and the Singapore Cultural Medallion for Visual Arts (1989) for his outstanding artistic achievements.
This mixed-media work on paper by Singaporean contemporary artist Goh Beng Kwan demonstrates his profound understanding of materiality and spatial composition. Dominated by natural hues, this work layers stacked colors and textures such as ochre, carbon black, indigo and light grey into rhythmic abstract form. 吴珉权1937年生于印度尼西亚棉兰，8岁那年随家人移居新加坡。他曾在两位新加坡先驱画家陈文希和钟泗滨门下学画，并于1962年留学美国纽约艺术学生联盟，是本地最早一批留学纽约的画家。
1982年是他艺术生涯的关键一年，在获得首届新加坡大华银行绘画比赛大奖后，他全心投入艺术创作，此后囊括多个重要荣誉，包括1984年澳州最高专员公署艺术奖首奖、法国巴黎大皇宫艺术家沙龙的银牌奖，并于1989年凭着杰出的艺术成就，获颁新加坡文化奖。
