Notes:
Gao Xiaowu created this representative work "Our Generation - I Love You!" with his usual humorous and socially metaphorical realistic sculptural language. This work continues his focus on the urban youth group in China in the new century in the "Our Generation" series, solidifying the image of the characters in exaggerated movements, capturing the emotional rupture and identity anxiety under the rapid social changes. The sculpture depicts the image of a young couple in a fusion of realism and exaggeration. He has his arms spread out, his posture is exaggerated and almost cartoon-like, and he seems to be saying "I love you!" at the loudest volume - but his face is often calm, restrained and even empty. This visual tension constitutes the rift between "ideal and reality" that is common in Gao Xiaowu's sculptures, showing the distortion of emotional and individual expression in contemporary Chinese society in the context of commercialization, media and popular language. The work is cast in bronze, with a smooth and modern surface treatment, precise details, and a high degree of sculptural completion. It can be placed in art galleries and is suitable for display in private or corporate collection spaces.
