ABDUL AZIZ
(1928 – 2002)
Born in Purwokerto, 1928. He graduated from the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI) in 1959 then went to Italy to continue his study at Academia Di Belle Arti in Rome. He exhibited some works in Italy several times as well as in Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Bali. Besides being a well known for his work, Aziz is a highly accomplished violinist.
ADI KANIKO (B. 1964)
Born in Surabaya, 22 March 1964. He studied art at IKIP Surabaya majoring in Fine Art. He has participated in several group exhibitions among others “Small is Beatiful” in Jakarta 2005, “Olimpiade” in Jakarta 2004, Interpellation CP Open Biannale in Jakarta 2003, “Gak Kakehan Omong” in Surabaya 2001, “Great Paradigma” in Sahid Hote Jakarta 2000, “Photo & Instalasi” in CCF Surabaya 1999, etc. He received awards from Indonesia Art Award 6 & 7, and CP Open Biennale Jakarta.
AFFANDI
(Cirebon, 1907 – 1990)
Born in Cirebon, March 11, 1907. He is considered as the Indonesian Artist par excellent. He was the founder of the Himpunan Pelukis Masyarakat (Community’s Artists Association (1946) and Himpunan Pelukis Rakyat (People’s Artists Association) in 1947, Affandi was committed to creating a new artistic idiom for Indonesia. In the early of 1950s he traveled to India for a grant from Indian Government, he held several one-man shows in several Indian Cities, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy. He received an Indonesian Art Award from the Ministry of Education and Culture (1969), the Dag Hammerskjoeld Prize from Italy (1977) and an Indonesian Government the First Class Merit (1978). His works were exhibited in major exhibitions in Asia, Europe, and the Americas and were also be acquired by major art collectors and institutions all over the world since the 1950s.
AGAPETUS AGUS KRISTIANDANA
(B. 1968)
Born in Yogyakarta on 6 August 1968. He studied and graduated from the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI). He was given an award at The Indonesian Art Award in 2000 and his first solo exhibition “Fourth Horizon” was held in Jakarta, 2003. He has participated in several group exhibitions among other “Ayo Ngguyu” in Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta, “Dari Kita Untuk Kita” in Jakarta and “Pseudo-Still Life, Objek dan Auranya” in Semarang (2005).
AGUS WAKIDI
(1928 – 1983)
He learned to paint in INS Kayutanam, Padang, Taught by artist Syafei and his late father, Wakidi. In general, his painting will be reminder of his father art work by motives, themes, momentum, mood and technique itself. He likes to paint landscape in realist style, while sometimes he captured mood in naturalistic kind of way, he once studied in Yang Art Academy, Singapore in 1949 and there e participated in 2 group exhibitions. He also had one time solo exhibition. After a while, last time he participated a group exhibition in Gedung Senirupa Depdikbud, Jakarta
ALIT SAMBODO
(1973 – 2003)
Born in Magelang, 1973. He took his formal study at the Indonesia Institute of Fine Art (ISI) Yogyakarta. He has actively participated in several solo and group exhibitions in major cities in Indonesia. His work has been awarded the Pratisara Affandi Adi Karya Prize in 1999. His painting has particular and distinct characteristic of all kinds of figures and scenes. He passed away in Magelang 2003. Yet, his short lifetime has been noted by important works that captured the people’s attention.
AMRUS NATALSYA (B.1933)
Born in Medan, October 21, 1933. He studied at SSRI and ASRI Yogyakarta majoring art sculpture. Many of works have been collected by art collectors in Indonesia and overseas. In 1983 he did 5 wooden calligraphic monuments in Jeddah. He got the best award from the Trienale Jakarta II in 1998 held by the Jakarta Arts Council.
ANDRE TAN (B. 1978)
Born in 1978, Singapore, he obtained his Diploma in fine Arts from Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore in 2000. Then he continued his study at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University, Australia and obtained Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art with Honours 1st Class in 2004. Later in 2005 he continued study at Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore and obtained his Master of Arts in Fine Arts in 2006. He has participated in several selected group exhibitions, among which are Earl Lu Gallery, Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore and at the Arts House, Singapore in 2006; Plastique Kinetic Worms, Singapore Art Museum and Earl Lu Gallery, Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore in 2005.
ARIE SMIT (B. 1916)
He studied Graphic Designs at the Academy of Art in Rotterdam. In 1938, he was sent to Indonesia for a military service where he worked as lithography for the Dutch Topographical service. In 1951, Smit received his Indonesian citizenship. He taught graphic and lithograpy at ITB / Bandung Institute of Technology from 1950 – 1956, he moved to Bali, and has lived and painted there ever since. He gave a lot of supports to the development of the naive style painting, which later known as the Young Artist Style in the early 1960s. For this, he received the Gold Medel Dharma Kusuma Award from the Balinese provincial Gtovernment in 1992.
ARIFIEN NEIF (B. 1955)
Born in Surabaya, 1955. He was a self taught artist. He was well known for his slightly nai 95 ve style with stylistic figures. Initially he worked as a mason, but due to his artistic talents, he help on the interior design of the building for his friend and not for long he decided to engage in full time painting in 1980. He held his solo exhibition at Bin House, Jakarta (1989), the Lorin & Kristy Art Gallery, Singapore (1995). He has participated in various group and solo exhibitions since 1989 including Tresor International Fine art Exhibition in Singapore (1993 & 1994), Yayasan Seni Rupa Indonesia / Breadbury International fine art exhibition in Jakarta (1994) and Gallery Santi (1995-1997).
AUNG KYAW HTET (B. 1965)
Aung Kyaw Htet was born in Myaungmya and is graduate from the State School of Fine Arts in Rangoon. He is a devout Buddhist and grew up in a small village, and these two factors which have a strong influence on his art. He is famous for painting the religious life in Burma. He has participated in several exhibitions in Burma, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and his works are in the permanent collections of the National Art Gallery of Malaysia and the National Museum of Myanmar in Burma.
AWIKI (B. 1961)
Born in Surabaya, November 11, 1961 but well known as painter from Banyuwangi. He studied painting under Bani Amora in Genteng then continued his study at Fine Art School Yogyakarta. He also studied to paint from Dullah in Pejeng Gallery and later joined in Kamboja Gallery among with other 17 painters. He used impasto technique and impresinostic style for his work.
BAMBANG PRAMUDIYANTO (B. 1965)
Bambang was born 1965 in Klaten, Central Java. He studied art at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia/ASRI), Yogyakarta from 1984 to 1989. Bambang began his career by painting all kinds of motorized vehicles in different contexts and conditions, from rusty old cars to shiny new motor vehicles. He took part in his first group exhibition in Jakarta in 1990, and in 2001 he held his first solo exhibition. His works have been shown in a number of Biennales including Biennale X at Taman Ismail Marzuki Jakarta, Biennale Yogyakarta VI and 2003 CP Open Biennale at Galeri Nasional Indonesia, Jakarta.
BASOEKI ABDULLAH
(1915 – 1993)
Basoeki Abdullah was born 1915 in Solo, Central Java. He was the second son of the well-known landscape painter, R. Abdullah Surio Subroto. At the age of ten, he held exhibition of his works, and in 1933, whwn he was eighteen, he had a grant to study at the Academie voor Beeldnde Kunsten (Academy of Fine Arts) in the hague, and subsequently traveled to Paris and Rome. He was best known for portrait paintings, along with landscspes, faunas, and floras. He died in Jakarta 1993.
BENCHARONG KOWAPITAKTAT
(B. 1973)
Bencharong Kowapitaktat was born 1973 in Thailand. He graduated from the prestigious Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. Later He studied at the Faculty of Painting, sculpture and graphic arts at Silpakorn University. He won several awards at Art contests by prominent banks and corporations. In 1997, Bencharong was the Top Winner for the Thailand Art Award 1997 organized by the Philip Morris Group. Bencharong has a fine eye for rendering farmyard scenes of chickens with life-like detailing. His works has a rustic charming appeal as well as beauty in composition.
BUDI UBRUX (B. 1968)
Born in 1968. He was graduated from the Institute of Fine Art (ISI) Yogyakarta. He had lived for 2 years in Switzerland to continue his study and working. He has participated in several exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas. He had his solo exhibition in Semarang Gallery (2002). He received awards as the winner of PMIAA, a finalist for Asean Art Award (2000) in Singapore and Indofood Art award, Jakarta (2002). Now he lives in Bantul, Yogyakarta.

She was born in solo, Central Java, in 1972. Bunga graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta. She held her solo exhibition at Centre Cultural Francaise (CCF), Yogyakarta; Sculpture Square, Singapore (2000); Edwin’s Gallery (2002); Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Austria (2003). CAO JINGPING (B. 1972)
Born in 1972, in Chongqing, China. He obtained Luo Zhong Li Art Scholarship in 1997. He graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts with Master’s Degree in 1999. Cao Jing Ping’s paintings consists of mainly 3 elements: butterflies, water and rusty chains. The paintings subject has always been the concern for the life itself. He uses butterflies to imply the beautiful yet fragile life.
CATUR BINAPRASETYO (B. 1972)
Catur was born 1972 in Wonogiri, Central Java. He graduated from ISI/ Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta 2002. He has won several awards in art competitions including First Prize in the Australia-Indonesia Friendship art competition in 1995 and he was one of the Top Ten prize winners of the Indonesian Art Awards in 2000, and Indofood Indonesian art Award in 2003. He has participated in group exhibitions in Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, France and Belgium.
CHEN HONGZHU (B. 1982)
Born in 1982 Chongqing, Sichuan Province, China. She graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts (Oil painting Department) in 2006. She held both solo and group exhibitions in Singapore, China and Korea. In 2006, she participated in “Man and Great Ideals”, an exhibition entitled “Pure Expectation” Youth Art Exhibition held in Beijing, China. In December 2008, she participated in “Surfing Animamax” which featured young contemporary Chinese Artist.
CHEN WEN BO (B. 1969)
Chen was born in Chongqing, China. From 1986 to 1990, he studied in Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1999, he has been a free-lance artist in Beijing. He has stood out conspicuously since the 1992 Asian Art Fair in Hong Kong. Follow are the solo exhibitions he has held: "Chen Wenbo Solo Exhibition" in Galerie LOFT, Paris, France, 2000; "Back Door" Chen Wenbo 2003 in He Xiangning Art Museum, Shenzhen, 2003; and "On the Green" in Courtyard Gallery, Beijing, 2006. CHOO KENG KWANG (B. 1931)
Born in Singapore, 1931. He graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). He learned art from his guidance of his father, Choo Kim Kye. He received awards The Public Service Medal, PBM (Art), Commendation award, and Bundaberg Art Society. He has been actively participating in several group exhibitions in many countries such as Taiwan, Japan, USA, Monaco, and France. He had also held several solo exhibitions in Malaysia, Singapore, USA and Indonesia.
DEDE ERI SUPRIA (B. 1956)
Born in 1956, Jakarta Indonesia. He studied at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI) in Yogyakarta (1974). In 1976 his name first emerged in the Indonesian Art Scene when he exhibited his works at the first Seni Rupa Baru Indonesia exhibition at the Balai Budaya, Jakarta. He has received several awards for his works, Jakarta Biennale 1981, won a Philip Morris Indonesian Art Awards in 1997 and was participated in many group shows as well as solo exhibitions. Dede held his solo exhibitions at Jakarta Stock Exchange (1997) and at the Art Folio Space in Singapore (2002). Today he is considered an influential propagator of super-realist painting in Indonesia.
DENG XINLI (B. 1974)
Deng Xinli was born 1974 in Henan province, China. He graduated from the Chinese Central Institution of Fine Arts in 1997. He went to New Zealand to pursue a degree at the Whitecliffe College of Art and Design. Later he became a member of Auckland Artist Association of New Zealand and member of Chinese Artist Association of New Zealand. From 2004 to 2007, he was invited to teach 'Surrealist Art and Traditional Painting Techniques' at the Uxbridge Art Centre of New Zealand. Deng Xinli's paintings have always been surrealistic in nature. In his paintings, he tries to express the current state of political and social undercurrent and does it with surrealist humour with historical and cultural undertones. He has participated in many group exhibitions held in New Zealand and China.

DJOKO PEKIK (B. 1938)
Djoko Pekik was born 1938 in Grobogan, Purwodadi in Central Java. In 1958, he enrolled at the Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI) where one of his lecturers was Widayat, an accomplished artist. Joko Pekik's art is typically Javanese in style and he has become one of the country1 s foremost greatest artists in satirizing the society he lives in. From 1990 to 1991, his works were part of a travelling exhibition of contemporary works for the Festival of Indonesia in USA. Since then, he had held numerous solo and group exhibitions in various parts of Indonesia and overseas. "The Art Gallery of Djoko Pekik" is owned by the artist and showcases many of his own collection.
EDDIE HARA (B. 1957)
He studied at Indonesia Art Institute in Yogyakarta from 1980 – 1989. Then, he continued his study to Academy of Voor Beldende Kunst Enschede, Netherlands. ERIC CHAN (B. 1975)
Born in 1975, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Eric Chan now base in Singapore. Between 1993 – 1996, he studied in LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts in Singapore where he obtained Diploma in Fine Art (Painting) with Distinction. In 1997, he graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts (Painting) with Distinction from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Between 1999 and 2000, he obtained Master of Fine Art (Painting) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Since then, he has 9 solo exhibitions held in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Dubai.
ERICA HESTU WAHYUNI (B. 1971)
Born in Yogyakarta, 1971. She began to study painting when she was young and join Sanggar Katamsi under painters Suharto PR. and Herry Wibowo. In 1996, she graduated from the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. She performed her solo exhibition in Yogyakarta and Jakarta. She intensely participated in many group exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas; Singapore, Philippines, Japan and Russia. She received award for the Best Work at ISI Yogyakarta in 1993.
F. SIGIT SANTOSO (B.1964)
Born in Ngawi, East Java, in 1964. He studied at Faculty of Fine Arts – Indonesian Fine Arts Institute and graduated in 1993. He has actively participated in numerous group exhibitions since 1987. In 2003, he had his solo exhibition in Jakarta. In 1994 he was nominated among the best 10 0f the Phillip Morris Group of Companies of Indonesian Art Awards and received award for Best Work at Biennale IV.
FAIZAL (B. 1965)
Born in Solo, Central Java, 1965. He graduated from high school in Solo and continued to study at the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), Yogyakarta. He participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bali, Kuala Lumpur Amsterdam, France and Singapore. He received awards for best sketch and best painting, Yogyakarta, 1990, best painting from ISI, Yogyakarta, and Medaille du Counseil Generale Prix D'honneur L. Duren, from France.

Born in Sichuan China, Feng graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute as a bachelor in 1999. He had participated in the “ Lovely “ art exhibition held in Beijing Contemporary Museum in 2000, “the 33rd Basel Art Exposition “ held in Basel, Switzerland in 2002, “the International Contemporary Art Exposition“ held in Melbourne, Australia, “the Madrid Art Exposition“ held in Madrid, Spain in 2004, “the Koln Art Exposition “ held in Koln, Germany, the international art exposition in Amsterdam in 2005, and “The Future Archaeology – The 2nd China Art trianual exhibition“ held in Nanjing Museum. Now he lives and work in Beijing.
FX HARSONO (B. 1949)
He studied at Indonesia Institute of Art (ISI), Yogyakarta in 1974 and continued to Jakarta Institute of Art (IKJ), Jakarta in 1991. He has participated in several group exhibitions such as Meet 3:3 in Yogyakarta, Purna Budaya, Yogyakarta (1998), Volume & Form, Singapore (1999), Art Document 1999 in Kanazu Forest Museum Japan (1999), Kwangju Biennale, Korea (2000), Solo show “Displacet”, National Gallery, Jakarta (2003), Langgeng Contemporary Art Festival 2006, Langgeng Gallery (2006), and “Titik Nyeri”, Langgeng Icon Gallery, Jakarta (2006).
GAO ZENGLI (B. 1964)
Born 1964 in Gansu Province, China. The artist emigrated to France in 1998. An alumni of the National Academy of Fine Arts in Shandong, China as well as the National Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, France, he retains a deep interest in Chinese history. The subject matter of Gao Zengli' s artworks is historical - be it image/ portrait or the element of expression, they are all closely related to history. His oil paintings often times used impasto style to bring out the tactile quality of his historical subject matters such as the last Emperor of China, Puyi. Gao also uses different materials for sensorial appreciation in his works. The artist has participated in countless exhibitions as well as art fairs in Asia, Europe and USA
GIRING PRIHATYASONO (B. 1980)
Born in Yogyakarta, 1980. Giring studied Fine Art at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta.
GUO JIN (B. 1964)
Guo Jin was born in 1964, in Chengdu, China. A graduate of Szechuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1990, he has participated in countless successful solo and group exhibitions in China, South East Asia, USA and Europe. His paintings of cherubic children in costume and play are easily recognizable and have become a signature for his work. A prevalent theme for Guo Jin' s paintings is “the reflection and contemplation of man' s naivete” while the children “represent the essence of idealism that we possessed but were probably lost after".
HENDRA GUNAWAN
(1918 – 1983)
Born in 1918 in Bandung, West Java Indonesia. A remarkable man, he was not only a gifted artist, but a poet, sculptor and a political activist. In his youth, he was a student of artists Wahdi Sumantha and Affandi. Later 1935, together with 2 other artists, they formed the Kelompok Lima (Group of Five) in Bandung. He also helped to establish Sundanese Heritage (Bandung) and People’s Artist Studio (Yogyakarta) in 1940 and 1947 respectively. In 1978, he moved to Bali and 3 years later, held a solo exhibition in Denpasar. His works are vigorous portrayals of the lives of villagers and common people in bright colors. Many of Gunawan’s works have been lost, fortunately museums and private collectors have located and catalogued over 120 of his paintings and sketches, along with eleven sculptures.
HERI KRIS (B. 1967)
Born in 1967, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He pursued art studies at the Indonesia Institute of Arts – ISI Yogyakarta. Heri held his inaugural solo exhibition in Germany in 1994. He has since participated in several group exhibitions in Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Bali, Semarang, Denmark and Amsterdam, among which are ‘Not Just The Political’ and ’83 Widayat’ at Museum H. Widayat Magelang in 2002.
HUA JIMING (B. 1964)
Born in 1964, Huangshi, Hubei province in China. He started to learn painting at a young age of 13, and graduated from Hubei Arts Institute in 1992. His first group exhibition was the “Nothing & Something Painting Group” exhibition in 1986. He participated in many exhibitions, the most recent one was held in Beijing.
HUANG GANG (B. 1961)
Huang Gang was born 1961 in Beijing, China. A Master Degree graduate of the China Central Academy of Art & Design, he lived through the violent and turbulent Cultural Revolution. That experience left an indelible mark in his psyche that has influenced his mixed media works. Incorporating both western and eastern elements, Gang' s creations have been exhibited and well received in Singapore, China, Korea, Germany, France, Switzerland and exclusively in the United States at Galerie Zuger in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His fascination with Tibetan culture is evident in a majority if his works, whereby he incorporates indigenous Tibetan timber and hand written buddhist scriptures as well as religious motifs such as the Mandala.
HOU LI MEI (B. 1964)
Hou Li Mei was born 1964 in the Heilongjiang Province of China. She graduated from the Harbin University’s Art Department in 1989 and moved to Beijing in 1999. Hou Li Mei received several awards for her works, for example the Outstanding Award and a silver award in art exhibitions in Heilongjiang Province. She took part in many exhibitions in Shanghai, Beijing, United States, Indonesia and Singapore. Hou’s works are also being collected by institutions and individuals alike in countries like Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
HUO QING (B. 1969)
Huo Qing born in 1969, he graduated from Hubei Huanggang Teachers College in 1987 – 1989. From 1989 – 1991 he was teaching in Huanggang Education College, Hubei Academy of Fine Arts. From 1991 – 1992 taking a refresher course in Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, major in oil painting. Now, he live in Beijing as independent artist.
I MADE WIANTA (B. 1949)
I Made Wianta was born 1949 in the village of Apuan, Bali, Indonesia. He graduated from the prestigious ASTI art academy in Yogyakarta.
Wianta thrived in ASTI during the heady years of the early 70s. Along with his experiences, Wianta had grown into a vigorous multidimensional artist from a versatile painter. He is regarded as one of the most influential living Indonesian artists today. Wianta has frequently travelled and exhibited in Indonesia as well as abroad.
I WAYAN PENGSONG (B. 1943)
Born in Cakra Negara, December 15, 1943. I Wayan Pengsong is a Balinese –born painter who now lives in Lombok. He is considered to be an Impressionist Decoratif artist. His painting have close relationship with the unique Lombok’s architectures because he is an at fighter that search images from his beloved country. He has an ability to change monochrom colors into an amazing image of beautiful Lombok surroudings. He had held many single and group exhibitions. Since 1963, he has already done several collective exhibition with other artists at GNI Mataram, Suranadi Hotel, Lombok, Lombok University Student Hall, Bentara Budaya Jakarta, Darwin Australia, Trienlle at Denpasar Art Center Bali, Mitra Budaya Jakarta, Hilton Hotel Jakarta. In 1995 and 1996, he participated in an exhibition held by YSRI in Jakarta. The next year, he held an exhibition with a theme of “ World Fund “ at Peng Song Gallery, Cakranegara. In 1998, he attended the Ministry of Educational and Culture Collection Exhibition at Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Educational and Culture Exhibition Building.
ISA PERKASA (B. 1964)
Born in 1964, Majalengka West Java Indonesia. Educated at Fine Arts Department Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Awards received include Best Five Works at Phillip Morris Indonesia Art Awards V in 1998, Juror’s Choice Phillip Morris Asean Art Awards V in Hanoi, Vietnam in 1998. He was finalist at Indonesian/Asean Art Awards IX 2003. He has had several solo exhibitions since 1993 and participated in some group exhibitions in Indonesia, Japan, USA, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Finlandia and Macau.
ISWANTO ( B. 1964 )
He was born in Kebumen, Central Java, 25 April 1964. He graduated from the Indonesia Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, majoring in Fine Art and Design (1986 – 1994). He held is so exhibition since 1988 such as in Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Denmark, Jakarta and Bandung. He also has joined in many exhibitions such as Besar Hima ISI in Yogyakarta (1987), Rotary SSAG in Yogyakarta (1989), Biennale II in Yogyakarta (1990), C.G. Jensen’s Kunstforrening Denmark (1991), Exhibition in Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Jakarta, Bandung and Denmark. He was awarded as the Best Sketch from ISI Yogyakarta, Finalist Philip Morris Art Award and Finalist Indofood Art Award.
JEFF SHI DAH-YUE (B. 1964)
Born in 1964 Teipei, Taiwan. He graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, USA in 1989. From 1993 to 1995, he worked as an in-house jewelry designer for the world famous renowned jewelry house, Harry Winston. He was deeply inspired by his 2 years experience at Harry Winston, and in 1996 set up the Dragonfly gallery in Taiwan. His paintings and sculptures borrow inspiration from the fine jewelry design as well as mythology. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and art events held in France, Italy, China, Taiwan and USA.
JEIHAN SUKMANTARA (B. 1938)
Born in 1938 Solo, Central Java. The artist studied painting from 1953 to 1955 at HBS/Himpunan Budaya Surakarta under the guidance of Sumitro Hendronoto. From 1960 to 1966, he studied painting at ITB/Bandung Institute of Technology. Jeihan has held solo shows in Indonesia, Italy and France. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Indonesia, USA, Algeria, The Netherlands and Switzerland.
JIA MING (B. 1970)
Jia Ming was born 1970 in the city of Xi' an, China. He graduated from the Print Making Department of the Xian Academy of*Fine Arts in 1995. In his works, the artist explores the importance of television in society especially a child' s world, and is inspired by TV pixels, developing the idea in his works. He has been involved in various exhibitions held in China as well as abroad in "Picking Morning Flowers in the West", a group exhibition held in Singapore and "Contemporary Chinese Art Exhibition" held in Israel.
JIANG SHUO (B. 1958)
Born in 1958, Beijing, China. She studied sculpture at the Central Academy of Arts and Design, which now under Tsinghua University. One of China’s most eminent female sculpture Jiang Shuo completed her master degree in 1985 and started her career in teaching sculpture at the Central Academy until 1989. With her husband Wu Shaoxiang they migrated to Austria and worked at their joint studio there. Jiang Shuo’s signature works are her “red guards” series. These eye-catching bronzes adorn many institutions, private museum, public areas as well as private collections. Her distinctive sculptures have been well received round the world in both solo and group exhibitions in Asia, USA and Europe.
JOHN VAN DER STERREN (B. 1938)
Van Der Sterren was born Sukabumi, West Java, in 1938. Lived in Indonesia for more than 6 years and spent his childhood in the tea plantation. After the Second World War together with his family he moved to New Zealand. In 1983, he came back to Indonesia and stayed in Subang, painting portraits and landscape which made him to be one of the leading lansdcape and portraits painter in Indonesia. His works have been collected in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Denpasar, and Magelang.
JULNAIDI MS (B. 1973)
Born in Padang, West Sumatra, 1973. He studied painting at SMSR Padang and FSR ISI Yogyakarta. He has actively participated in several group exhibitions such as Kelompok Sakato in Purna Budaya Yogyakarta (1997) and in Jakarta (2000). He also awarded as the Finalist Indonesia Art Awards VI (1999) and VIII (2001).
JUMALDI ALFI (B. 1973)
Born in Lintau 1973, West Sumatra. He graduated from Sekolah Menengah Seni Rupa (SMSR) Yogyakarta, majoring in Fine Art in 1993, then he continued his study at Indonesian Institute of Art (ISI), Yogyakarta, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fine Art, and graduated in 1999. He founded kelompok Seni Rupa Jendela with Yunizar, M. Irfan, Rudi Mantofani, Yusra Martunus and Handiwirman. He actively participated in numerous group exhibitions in Yogyakarta and Jakarta. He has held several solo exhibitions in Yogyakarta as well as in Jakarta. Awards received include The Best art works "Refleksi Zaman" from ISI, Yogyakarta, 1998; Finalist Phillip Morris Indonesia Art Award V, 1998.
KRIJONO (B. 1951)
Krijono was born 1951 into an artist family in 1951 in Jakarta. His mother is a Batik Factory owner and his father is a painting collector who owns Harris Art Gallery. He developed a deep love for the arts through his early exposure. In 1970, Krijono studied at the Indonesia Academy of Art (ASRI), Yogyakarta. The artist uses bright colors, spontaneous brush strokes and bold lines in his striking expressionistic paintings. Regarding the use of colors, Krijono feels he can choose any color and use it to satisfy the needs of his creation, and refusing to mix colors to create new colors. "I am a painter, not a paint mixer" He once said. Krijono has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.
LEE MANG FONG (B. Guangzhou, Canton, China, 1913 – D. Jakarta, Indonesia, 1988)
Born in 1913 Canton, China. In 1916, Lee Man Fong’s family moved from Canton to Singapore. He began his studies of painting in Singapore, and in 1932 he moved to Jakarta where he started an advertising agency and worked as a commercial artist. In 1941 he visited Bali and painted there for a brief period; in the same year he had a solo exhibition in Jakarta. In 1947 he was awarded the Malino grant by the Dutch Governor-General to study painting in Holland and he stayed there until 1952. He traveled widely during those years and held several solo exhibitions. In 1955 he founded the Yin Hua artists’ association and served as chairman. He became a Presidential Palace painter for the former Indonesian President Soekarno in 1961, and also compiled the 5-volume edition of President Soekarno’s art collection.
LI SONG (B. 1965)
Li Song was born 1965 in Muling City, Heilongjiang Province of China. He studied painting at Harbin, China, and currently lives and works in Beijing. Li Song’s works have been exhibited in numerous countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Denmark and China. In 2005, Li took part in the Gocdhuis Contemporary Gallery exhibition in New York and the “Contemporary art from Greater China” exhibition in London.
LI ZI JIAN (B. 1954)
Born in Hunan Province 1954, China. Li graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. He founded the Hunan Young Artists Association in 1985 where he became Executive Chairman. In 1986 Li became a member of the Chinese Artists Association and organized the Hunan Young Artists Exhibition at the National Art Gallery in Beijing. Since then, Li has organized solo exhibitions that have traveled around the world and been held at institutions such as the Taipei Fine Art Museum, the Berlin World Cultural Exhibition Center, the Paris Chinese Cultural Center in France, the Thailand National Museum, the Shanghai Art Museum, and the United Nation headquarters in New York (where Li was commissioned to do a portrait of the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan).
LIU BAOLIANG (B. 1980)
Born in 1980, Shen Yang, China. In 2003, he enrolled in the Central Academy of Fine Arts to learn sculpture and graduated in 2007. He won the First prize for the Best Work of the Year in 2005 and 2006 at the academy, and for his 2007 graduation piece, he was awarded the Best Work of the Year. A talented sculptor, Liu Baoliang has held solo exhibitions featuring his mixed media human sculptures in China and in 1997, was involved in art shows held in Finland and Germany.
LIU FENG ZHI (B. 1963)
Born 1963 in Harbin Province, Liu graduated from the Fine arts department of Harbin Normal University. Liu has participated in many national and international exhibitions going back to the mid 1990, including the Chinese Avant-garde Art Exhibition in Hong Kong in 1994 and The First Chinese Contemporary Art Exhibition which has been held at the China Fine Arts Museum, Beijing, from 1996 – 1997. In 1998 Liu held a solo exhibition of his oil painting, he held the “Spiritual Landscape Exhibition“, in 2001. Liu’s works have been collected by many overseas collectors.
LIU GUOQIANG (B. 1962)
Born in Cangzhou, Hebei province, China. He began his art training in 1968, and from 1977 to 1987 at the Hebei art school located at Hebei Normal College. In 1992, he moved to the artist village at Yuanming Garden in Beijing, and subsequently moved to the Songjiazhuan Artist village in Beijing. He has participated in numerous art events in China including the 2001 “China International Art Expo” held at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing, China.
LIU JIA (B. 1982)
Born in 1982, Chongqing, China. He graduated in 2007 from the Department of Sculpture at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Even before his graduation, he participated in numerous exhibitions both locally and overseas. In 2004, he won first prize at the National college student Art Festival exhibition, awarded first prize held in Beijing. Since then, he has participated in international art exhibitions and events held in Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, France and Hong Kong. In 2008, he held a solo sculpture shown entitled “Legend” at the Shanghai Art Museum in China. His works were collected by French les Abattoirs, Toulouse museum, Shenzhen museum, shanghai city sculpture center, contemporary artist institution.
LI XIAO CHENG (B. 1963)
Born in Jilin, China. He graduated from Jilin Art School in 1984. His “Breath” series, where a thin mask of froth was painted over a man, touches on the human soul and how one is enlightened through understanding the essence of life and it is to live life to the fullest. These artworks define creativity and his individual unique idea to speak of his individual journey in life. Without doubt, these mark the artist’s unique technique and style in the contemporary art scene. The artist has exhibited widely in his native China, in particular in Beijing and in recent years also has exhibitions in New York, Hong Kong and Singapore.
LUO ZHENHONG (B. 1981)
Luo Zhenhong was born 1981 in Fujian, China. He graduated in 2005 from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. The sculptor' s most fascinating work is the Dwarf series, which features diminutive figures from various professions, all possess a whimsical large head on a small figure. In 2002, he was involved in the opening of Chongqing Art Museum entitled "Experimentation of Art Education" in Chongqing, China. Since then, he has taken part in exhibitions held across China, Hong Kong and Denmark.
MA DONG MIN (B. 1968)
Ma Dong Min was born 1968 in Daqing, Heilongjiang Province, China. The artist is a graduate from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1990. Currently he resides and paints in Beijing. Since 1990, his works were exhibited widely in China and overseas. His evocative and sensual paintings shows billowing human passions over a traditional Chinese mountain scape, at once thought provoking and titillating. Ma Dong Min’s exhibitions includes: Solo Exhibition in Hong Kong Cultural Centre (1994), China Art Fair, Beijing (1995), Chinese Avant-garde Painting Touring Exhibition in Germany, Switzerland and Spain (2003), China-France Art and Cultural Exchange Exhibition, France (2004), Asian Contemporary Art Exhibition, Korea (2005) and the Chinese Contemporary Paintings Exhibition in New York (2006).
MADE SUKADANA (B. 1966)
Born in 1966 Amlapura, Bali. He studied fine art at Institute Seni Iindonesia, Yogyakarta from 1987 – 1994. His achievement stood out since he was a student when received award The Best Sketch in 1987-1988, Indonesia Art Award finalist in 1997, 1998 and award from Menteri Pariwisata in 1998.
MARIO BLANCO (B. 1962)
Mario Blanco was born in 1962 in Bali,, Indonesia to very famous parents. His art was heavily influenced and nurtured by his parent since childhood. His mother was a famous Balinese dancer, who imparted in him a native artistic sensitivity, while his faher was the famous Spanish artist, Don Antonio Blanco who taught him European art style. Since 1983, he studied art acedamically, finally graduating from Udayana University in Denpasar, Bali. In 2005, Indonesia Tatler named him the best Indonesian artist, and in 2007, he received the prestigious Kria Patra Cihna Yasa Awarded by the King of Denpasar, Bali. Presently, he is the director of the "Blanco Renaissance Museum" in Bali.
MIAO YUANYANG (B. 1975)
Born in 1975, Jiang An, Sichuan province China. He graduated from Sichuan Fine Art Institute in 1995. In 2006, he graduated from Sichuan Music Institute, ChengDu Art Institute, gain a master degree. His exhibitions during 2000 “50 years national celebration oil painting” exhibition in Yunnan, Yunnan Art museum, In 2001 The first ‘Patriotic’ country oil painting exhibition, gain an out standing record ‘Research and Surmounts’ Chinese small length oil painting exhibition, China Art museum, Shanghai Art museum. And 2006 his exhibition First ‘New power China’ contemporary art Biennale, Shanghai, YuanGong Art museum.
NASIRUN (B. 1965)
Born in Cilacap, October 1, 1965. He studied at the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta (1987-1994). He received awards for the best sketches and paintings from ASRI, selected as one of the five best paintings from ASRI. Yayasan Seni Rupa Indonesia (Indonesian Fine Arts Foundation) – Philip Morris Indonesian Art Award, and entered to the ASEAN Art Awards in Manila, the Philippines. He held his solo exhibition at the Gallery Nasional Indonesia (Indonesian National Gallery) in 2000 and participated in Soul Ties exhibition in Singapore Art Museum.
NURKHOLIS (B. 1969)
Nurkholis was born in 1969 in Jepara. He studied painting at Institute Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, majoring in Fine Arts and Design from 1989 – 1994. He held his solo exhibition in Yogyakarta (1994), Kafe Solo, Surakarta (1998) and Benteng Vredebrug (Vredebrug Fort), Yogyakarta (1999). He participated in several exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas; Yogyakarta Young Pinter Exhibition (1991, 1994), Young Artist Exhibition, Winconsin, USA (1992), Indonesia Students Art Exhibition, Bali (1993), Indonesia’s Excellence Exhibition, Jakarta & Singapore (1996), Phillip Morris Indonesian Art Award Exhibition, Jakarta & Bali (1997), Art Case Galleries Sdn Bhd, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2000), Nadi Gallery, Jakarta (2001). He had participated in saveral exhibition and won the Asia Prize at The Beppu Asia Biennale of Contemporary Art (2005) in Japan. He received awards from the Indonesia Education & Culture Department Award, The Best Graduation Award from ISI Yogyakarta, Best Students Awards from ISI, Yogyakarta in painting, sketching and creativity and finalist at Phillip Morris Indonesia Art Award.
NYOMAN ERAWAN (B. 1958)
Born in Dlodtongkluk, Bali, 1958. He graduated from ISI Yogyakarta. He had participated in joint-exhibitions in Ethnology Basel Museum, Switzerland (1995) and some other big cities in Indonesia. He performed his solo exhibitions in Hyatt Hotel Sanur, Bali (1996) and Santi Gallery, Jakarta (2000). He received Lempad Price from Dewata Indonesia Gallery (1982), as the finalist of Phillip Morris Art Award (1993) and as the Best Painting of Dies Natalis III ISI Yogyakarta (1984) and the First Price Phillip Morris Group Company.
NYOMAN GUNARSA (B. 1944)
Nyoman Gunarsa was born 1944 in Banda, Klung Klung Province in Indonesia. He is a world recognized identity in Indonesian Art and one of Bali' s most renowned resident artists. He has achieved enormous critical acclaim through exhibitions, museums and institutions worldwide and continues to dedicate his life and work to Bali. Gunarsa became a lecturer at Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in the 1980' s when abstract expressionism fever originated from this alumnus. Today Gunarsa is still an energetic painter, based at his outdoor studio in Banda, Klungkung, adjoining one of the two fine art museums he founded (the other is the Museum of Indonesian Contemporary Art in Yogyakarta.
NYOMAN SUJANA "KENYEM" (B. 1972)
Born in Sayan Ubud, Bali 1972. He graduated from STSI School of Art in Denpasar, Bali. He has had solo Exhibitions, among which are at Gallery Nakita in Stockholm, Sweden (1996); "Leafscape" at Danes Art Veranda in Denpasar, Bali (2004); "Dance of Life" at Conrad Hotel, Tanjung Benoa and "Pre Bali Biennale Exhibition" at Raka Gallery, in Bali (2005). He has also actively participated in numerous group exhibitions in Jakarta, Bali, Yogyakarta and Canberra, Australia. He was awarded The Best Painting of Kamasra Prize, Indonesian Art Institute (STSI), Denpasar in 1996. Other award received is The Best Artworks of Bachelor of Fine Art Examination, Indonesian Art Institute (STSI), Denpasar, Bali in 1998.
PANDE KETUT TAMAN (B. 1970)
Born in Peliatan, Ubud, 1970. He comes from an artistic background, which made his interest in the arts started in the early age. He graduated from ISI/Indonesian Istitute of the Arts Yogyakarta in 1998. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions since 1989. Several awards he has received including Best Painting, Dies Natalis ISI Yogyakarta in 1998, and Lempad Prize awarded by Sanggar Dewata Indonesian Artist Group in 2000.
PANG YONGJIE (B. 1968)
Born 1968 in Shangdong Province,China. He graduated in 1990 from the Shandong Normal University' s College of Fine Arts, and in subsequent years researched at the prestiquious Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.For this artist, "Art is a religion" , a form of "spiritual redemption" . Pang' s women are pampered voluptuous sirens whose vast nakedness are rendered in expansive broad strokes from his palette. He has exhibited in group and solo shows in China, Japan, Taiwan, Hongkong and Europe. The artist presently works and resides in Beijing, China.
PONG-Q HARY PURNOMO (B. 1970)
Born in 1970, Jakarta, Indonesia. He studied art at the Visual Arts Department at the Art Institute of Jakarta. His first group show was held at the Visual Arts Exhibition Hall IKJ in 1993. Since then he has participated in several group shows held in Indonesia and most recently at the 2008 Singapore Art Exhibition in Singapore. He had held two solo shows in 2002 and 2007. He received the Best Paper Award IKJ Visual Art in 1995, and was a finalist at the 2001 Phillip Morris Singapore Art Awards and the 2006 Jakarta Art Awards.
POPO ISKANDAR (1927 - 2000)
Born in 1927, Garut, West Java, Popo Iskandar began painting in 1944 as a poster painter for the Information Service of Indonesian Students Armed Force (TRIP). He graduated from the Bandung Institute of Technology, Department of Fine Arts in 1958. A lecturer at the State Teachers Trainings College in Bandung, Popo not just an artist, but a well-respected intellect, art critic and observer. In 1970, he was awarded life membership by the Jakarta Academy for his dedication and contributions to the arts. Since 1953, Popo has participated in many group exhibitions held in China, England, India, Japan, Holland and USA as well as solo shows in Indonesia and Holland.
PRATOMO SUGENG (B. 1946)
Born in Ponorogo, East Java, 1946. He studied painting under the realist painter, Dullah. He held exhibitions in Jakarta, Solo, Yogyakarta and Bali. He belived realistic style as art medium adaptable to the ever changing period. He became the finalist of Indofood Art Awards in 2002.
PUPUK DARU PURNOMO (B. 1964)
Born in Yogyakarta, June 16, 1964. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Design, the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. He held solo exhibition at Bentara Budaya, Yogyakarta (1995). He actively participated in several group exhibitions at Gajah Gallery, Singapore (1997, 2002), Santi Gallery, Jakarta (1998), H. Widayat Museum, Magelang (2001, 2002) and Group Exhibition in Yogyakarta (2002). He received awards as the finalist of Phillip Morris Art Award (1997).
REARNGSAK BOONYAVANISHKUL
(B. 1961)
Born in Singhburi, Thailand 1961. He graduated with a BFA from the Faculty of painting, sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand in 1986. He had a solo exhibition in Bangkok in 1998 and has participated in group exhibition in Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Japan and China. In 1986 he collaborated on a mural painting at the Bhudapadipa temple in London, United Kingdom. He has won several art awards including the Gold Medal, 9th Bua Laung Art Exhibition, Bangkok in 1985; special Award Winner, International Osaka Triennial , Osaka, Japan in 1990; and Singapore National Youth Award (Art and Culture Section ) in 1996.
RINALDI (B. 1976)
Born 1976, in Padang, West Sumatra. He graduated from SMSR Padang in 1996 and continued his study at Institute of Art in Yogyakarta 2004. Rinaldi was among the young potential artist that focused his object of painting from plants such as garlic, coconut and fruits.
ROSID (B. 1969)
Born 1969, in Ciamis, West Java. He studied art as SOS Bandung (1989-1991), studied painting at Rudy Pranadjaja, Bandung (1994) and Art Workshop at Bengkel Seni Sunaryo, Bandung (2001-2002). He joined the R-66 studio, Bandung (1991-1993), Redha Studio and Tatang Ganar Studio, Bandung (1997-1999). He exhibited his works in solo and group exhibitions. He held his one-man shows at Segenggam Peduli Studio, Bandung (1999), Koong Gallery, Grand Melia Hotel, Jakarta (2000) and Selasar Seni, Bandung (2002). He joined group exhibitions at Nusantara Gallery, Jakarta (1999), Soemardja Gallery, Bandung; Edwin’s Gallery, Jakarta; Popo Iskandar Museum, Bandung (2001), Daejon Municipal Museum of Art, Korea and Nadi Gallery, Jakarta (2003).
RUSLI
(Medan, 1916 - Jakarta 2005)
From 1932 to 1938 he lived in India where he studied painting, philosophy and literature at Santiniketan University. Rusli has spent most of his life in Yogyakarta. In 1945 - 1949 he taught an educational institute at Taman Siswa and headed the art section of the Military School of the Department of Defence and Security during the Revolution. He was lecturer at ASRI/Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts, Yogyakarta from 1951-56. He joined Seniman Muda Indonesia (Indonesian Young Artists) and helped established the Seni Rupa Masyarakat (Art for People Association). His works were exhibited at the Second Biennial Exhibition in Sao Paolo, Brazil in 1953, the Palazzo Brancaccio, Rome (1955). He has had numerous solo exhibitions in Jakarta, and has participated in group exhibitions in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Denpasar. He was awarded the Arts Award by the Government of Yogyakarta; Adam Malik Award in 1986; and the Hamengkubuwono IX Award in 2002. He is the founder of the Rusli Museum in Yogyakarta. He died in Jakarta on 11 May 2005.
S. SUDJOJONO
(1914-1986)
Born in Kisaran, Sumatra, 1914. He first studied painting under the artist Pringadi, and later from Jasaki, a Japanese painter. In 1937 he founded the Persagi Indonesian Artists Association in Jakarta. In 1970 he was awarded recognition in art by the Indonesian government. His works have been exhibited in the Netherlands and in the Fukuoka Art Museum in Japan (1980). Local exhibitions have been held in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Denpasar and Bandung. He died in Jakarta, 1986
SHI WEI (B. 1965)
Shi Wei was born in Hubei, China, 1965. He graduated from the High School of Hubei Art Institution in 1997. Present, he is a lecturer of the Art Institution of Beijing.
SIDHARTA SOEGIJO GREGORIUS
(Yogyakarta, Indonesia, 1932 - 2006)
Studied at ASRI / Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts, Yogyakarta (1953) and then continued his studies at the Jan van Eyck Academy in The Netherlands (1957). He taught at ASRI Yogyakarta from 1958-64, then moved to Bandung where he taught in the Fine Arts Department of ITB / Bandung Institute of Technology from 1965-97. From 1970-73 he also taught at IKJ / Jakarta Institute of the Arts. He has had solo exhibitions in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Magelang. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, India, Poland and Norway. Awards received include Best Painting by the Badan Musyawarah Kebudayaan Nasional in 1952; Indonesian Government Art Award in 1980; winner of the Tanjung Priok Harbour Monument competition in 1980; Best Sculpture awarded by DKJ / Jakarta Arts Council in 1986; and ASEAN Cultural Award in 1990. He has created numerous public monuments and sculptures in Indonesia, Korea, Philippines and Japan. He retired from teaching at ITB in 1997, and was the chairman of API/Indonesian Association of Sculptors from 2000-2003.
SOMPOP BUDTARAD (B. 1957)
Born in 1957, Mahasarakham, Thailand. He graduated from Silpakorn University in Bangkok with a B. F. A. specializing in painting. From 1986 to 1992, Sompop worked in England on the Mural Painting Project of Buddhapadipa Thai Temple in London. Sompop also won awards including the prize winning sculpture at “The Art Show” of John Jones Open Show in London. Sompop participated in numerous group exhibitions in Thailand, United States, England and Japan. He held his first solo exhibition “Grace and The Rising of the Mind” in the Visual Dhamma Gallery of Bangkok in 1995.
SUDARSO (B. 1914)
Born in Purwokerto, Central Java, 1914. Affandi was his customer when he was an egg and milk seller. From that time he was interested in painting and learnt under Affandi as well as young painters such as Barli, Wahdi, and Hendra. He became a teacher at the Indonesian Fine Arts Academy (ASRI), Yogyakarta. He had participated in some exhibitions in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Now he lives in Sidoarjo, Surabaya.
SUNARYO (B. 1943)
Sunaryo was born 1943 in Banyumas, Central Java. Painter and sculptor who graduated from thr Department of Art, ITB / Bandung Institute of Technology in 1969, and became a lecturer there in 1970. He was Head of the Sculputure Department at ITB from 1976-1980, and Chairman of the Department of Art at ITB from 1988. Sunaryo studied sculpture, in particular the techiques of carving and sculpting marble, in Carrara, Italy in 1975. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions world-wide. UNESCO and the International Association of Art in Paris, France awarded him a Silver Medal for graphic design in 1978. In 1998 he founded the Selasar Sunaryo Museum in Bandung.
SURAJI (B. 1971)
Born in Bantul Yogyakarta, 29 March 1971. Graduated from School of Fine Art (FSRD) Institut Seni Indonesia, Yogyakarta. His first debut was Indonesian Art Exhibition in Yogyakarta 1999, then in Osaka Trienialle Japan, awards Osaka 21st Century Association Prize Osaka Triennial 2001. Finalist PMIAA 1998, 1999, 2000. Second place winner of Indofood Art Awards 2002. Winner of Symbolic category Indofood art Award 2003.
SU XINPING (B. 1960)
Born in 1960, Jining, Inner Mongolia in China. He graduated from the Painting Department, Tianjin Institute of Fine Arts in 1983. Su obtained his Master Degree in Print-making from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. Currently he works as Deputy Professor and Deputy Head of Department of Printmaking at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. TANG XIAO GU (B. 1965)
Born in 1965, Jiang su Wuxi China. Graduated from the Shanghai Institute of Education, Fine Arts Department. Presently working at the Shanghai Huangdong University of Technology as an Art Editor. In 1990 participated in 3rd Annual Youth Art Exhibition, in 1991 participated in 70th Anniversary of the Communist Party Art Exhibition Xihu Arts Festival Exhibition. In 1992 participated in Shanghai Fine Arts Exhibition, USA.
TAO NA (B. 1980)
Tao Na was born 1980 in Hunan, China. She graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing with a bachelor' s degree in 2005, and later with a MFA in 2008. Tao Na is known for her distinctive style of rendering her subjects in an innovative mosaic-like painting and Grafting technique. She has participated in exhibitions and art fairs held in Singapore, USA, Switzerland as well as China. Most recently, her works were showcased at the Art Asia Miami held at Miami, USA.
TISNA SANJAYA (B. 1958)
Tisna Sanjaya was born 1958 in Bandung, West Java. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1986. He went on to finish his Post-Graduate studies at DAAD Stipendium, Germany in 1998. He came in Top 10 at the Philip Morris Indonesia Art Awards in 1995 and 1997. Prevalent themes in his works include problems of humanity, social concerns as well as politics. He has held numerous exhibitions abroad in Singapore, Korea, India, The Netherlands and Italy. He now teaches at the Bandung Institute of Technology, which makes him a civil servant and government employee, a status that he often uses as a satiric, ironical tool in his performance and installation works.

WALASSE TING (B. 1929)
Walasse Ting was born in Wuxi, China in 1929, but raised in Shanghai. He began his career painting on sidewalks. In 1952 he moved to Paris where he was exposed to Western art, in particularly the Expressionist movement and the works of Picasso. In 1960, Ting emigrated to New York, where he became involved with pop artists and was influence by Figuratism or Representational Art. Ting's works are a rich kaleidoscope of bright, luminous colors with 19th century sensuality. Freshness, vitality and brilliant color characterizes Wallase Ting's women, flowers, birds and animals. He has had more than 60 solo exhibitions in major art galleries and museums around the world, including: New York, Paris, Zurich, Brussels, Amsterdam, Munich, Copenhagen, Vienna, Milan, Taipei, Tokyo, Singapore, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
WIDAYAT
(Kutoarjo, 1919 - Jakarta, 2002)
Born in Kutoarjo, Central Java, 1923. He studied at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI), Yogyakarta and Ceramics and Landscape, Nagoya, Japan (1960). He received BKPM award (1953), a cultural award from the Indonesian Government (1972), the Best Biennial Painting, Yogyakarta (1986) and the ASEAN Award, Brunei Darussalam (1993). His works have been shown throughout Indonesia and abroad. He performed his solo exhibitions in Yogyakarta (1983), Jakarta (1985, 1990, 1991, 1992, 2000 and participated in joint exhibition in Japan, Netherlands and United States for KIAS (1990-1991).
WU JIANJUN (B. 1966)
Wu Jianjun was born 1966 in Sichuan province, China. He graduated from Sichuan Fine Art Institute in Chongqing. Wu Jianjun has always been passionate and amazed by the physique of human body. In his paintings, he transforms psychological turmoil onto his canvases, capturing a wide intensity of emotion and facets of the inner life of himself and others. He has held two solo shows to date; "Body Pattern" in Beijing, 2006 and "Metamorphosis" in Singapore, 2008. He has participated in numerous group shows in Indonesia, Italy, Holland, China, Korea and United Kingdom.
XIAO HONG (B. 1966)
Born in 1966, Inner Mongolia, China. He graduated in 1990 from the Oil Painting Department of Inter-Mongolia Normal University. In 1991, he studied at the “Claude Yeevier” Realistic Oil Painting class held in Lu Xun Art Institute and later enrolled at the Central Arts and Craft Institute in Beijing to study mural painting history. Xiao Hong’s signature style of piecing together various images onto the contours of a human face is memorable. His first solo exhibition was held in 1999 in Beijing and subsequent shows were held in Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia. He was also involved in group exhibitions held in France, Japan, China and Indonesia.
XIAO PING (B. 1968)
Xiao Ping was born 1968 is the Sichuan Province of China. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1991. Xiao Ping took part in numerous exhibitions, including “Eight Minus One” Art Works Exhibition, the “Building Hong Kong” exhibition, and in 2007 he took part in the Shanghai Art Fair, Art Amsterdam 2007, Art Beijing 2007 as well as Art Singapore 2007 The Asian Contemporary Art Fair in Singapore.
XUE SONG (B. 1965)
Xue Song was born 1965 in Anhui, China. He graduated from the Stage Art Department of the Shanghai Drama Institute in 1988. A turning point in Xue Song' s artistic career came when his art studio was burned down, and in the process all his works were destroyed. Xue Song then experienced an artistic epiphany while picking up the torn and burnt pieces of his former works. He began creating pictures by using pieces of burnt paper. Now a highly regarded Contemporary Artist, Xue Song has held more than 20 successful solo exhibitions in countries such as China, Singapore, UK, USA and Germany.
YAN BO (B. 1970)
Born in 1970 to artist parents in Beijing, China. He graduated in 1996 from the Tianjan Fine Art Academy. In 2002, he obtained a Master degree at the Central Fine Art Academy in Beijing. Yan Bo’s paintings exude warmth and happiness and are filled with bright colors and bold strokes. He received his first award at the Sino-Japanese Fine Arts Exhibition held in Beijing in 1991. His solo exhibition entitled “The Bright Side of Life” was held in Singapore, Indonesia and China in 2007. He has involved in numorous exhibitions held in Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.
YANG FAN (B. 1972)
Born in 1972 in Jieyang, Guangdong province, China. Graduate from the Department of Printmaking at the Guangzhou Academy of Art. She started teaching at the Guangdong Education Institute in the Fine Arts Department in 1996. Her paintings revolve around the themes concerning the consumerism of women in ‘capitalist’ China, reflecting on their indulgence in material comforts and lifestyles. In 2003, she was awarded Bronze Painting Exhibition. Yang Fan has participated in solo and group exhibitions in many parts of China as well as Singapore and Italy.

YANG MIAN (B. 1970)
Yang Mian was born 1970 in Chengdu, China. He graduated from the Szechuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1997 with a Bachelor' s Degree majoring in Oil Painting. In 1998 he was received the Contemporary Chinese Art Award from the Chinese Contemporary Art Association. Yang Mian addresses the issue of changing standards that are shaping the face of the social and cultural life in Chinese society using subjects such as women and images from pop culture in his paintings. He has held numerous solo exhibitions in China and overseas in USA, France and Singapore. He was involved in several group exhibitions held overseas in Mexico, Taiwan, Amsterdam and Switzerland among others.
YE YONGQING (B. 1958)
Ye Yongqing was born 1958 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, is a pioneering artist who was part of the Sichuan School of artists. Much of his career was spent on painting birds, begun in 2000, which are executed in a signature quirky style featuring scratched black lines using the traditional medium of Chinese brush and ink on rice paper. He also has focused in recent years on creating colorful collages. But for years he has been better known as a curator, arts events organizer and artist community booster. Ye Yongqing is perhaps best known for his bird paintings, These He is a close friend and colleague to artists who worked in western China, particularly Sichuan and Yunnan. Ye Yongqing graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. He lives in Beijing and Kunming.
YIN KUN (B. 1969)
Yin Kun was born 1969 in Deyang, Sichuan province, China. He graduated in 1992 from the Fine Arts Department of the ABA Teacher' s College, China. He is highly popular for his Chinese baby series which are widely collected around the world. He has held successful solo shows in countries such as China, Indonesia and The Netherlands and participated in many National and International level group shows around the world
YIN ZHAOYANG (B. 1970)
Born in Henan, China, graduated from the Central Institute of Fine Arts in Beijing, Department of The Printmaking, now resides in Beijing. Yin is an artist who selects the pulse of an era as his subject. His solo exhibitions include “Myth” (2001, Shanghai DDM Warehouse and Beijing Yan Huang Art Museum), “Images Image Exhibition” (2003, Shenzhen Art Museum), and “The Power of Personality – a traveling exhibition of progressive art”.
YUSWANTORO ADI (B. 1966)
Born in Semarang, Central Java, 1966. He studied at the Indonesian Institute of Arts ( ISI ), Yogyakarta. He held his solo exhibition at the Bentara Budaya, Yogyakarta (1998). He participated in the Citra Realistik Exhibition in 1995. He received awards as the five winners of the Yayasan Seni Rupa Indonesia, Phillip Morris Indonesian Art Awards, and won the Grand Prix Prize in the Asean Art Awards in Manila, the Philippines.
ZANG DONG LIANG (B. 1970)
Born in Anyang, Henan Province China. He graduated from Art Department of Zhengzhou, Light Industry Institute in 1992. Since his move to Beijing in 1998, he has participated in many exhibitions in Beijing. In 2001, he participated in “La rage de vive” (The Rage to live) Chinese Artist Group Exhibitions in Paris.
ZHANG CHENG (B. 1964)
Born in Ancheng, Heilongjiang Province, China. In 1989 he graduated from Art Department of Harbin University. His paintings usually displayed strong characteristic of wilderness and passion, just liked as though he is immersed in his own creation. The paintings seem to be exchanging a conversation in the nature.
ZHAO HAI (B. 1964)
Born in Inner Mongolia, China. He graduated from The Central University For Nationalities, College of Art in 1991. In 2003, he participated in “Inner Mongolia Oil Painting Exhibition” held in Japan and has since participated in many exhibitions both within China as well as abroad. He has very unique painting style. His use of layered painting technique in his “Rust” series has gained wide acclaim. Drawing rusting train carriages, sometime with the Mao portrait hung in front of the train, the works commented on the state of the socialist China.
